Walking around the zoo
Saw a sight I knew
All these beings bound by glass
Awkward things,
In a lonely place,

What a holy mess
I stood a while at the cage of birds
Yellow wings, body bound by words

In this tired zoo,
By the fish-tank was so stressed
Little things,
Swim in misery

Of this lovely vibrant life
I stood and stared through the tiger cage,
As he prowled,
In a sullen rage

Curiosity,
By the hippopotamus
Awkward thing,
In the lonely stage,
Of this dream,
Of this holy mess
I pitied it; Clumsy, Sloshing,
Dangerous beast,
Yet we laughed at it
Spent a while,
By the hippopotamus
Strolling around at four,
Eyes stuck to the floor,
Saw the jungle king caged in,
Sleepy thing,
Never moves no more,
Quiet thing, has he lost his roar?
I stood a while just watching him
Breaks my heart,
Just to look at him.
Is that me? Am I dying to be free?
